10 Takeaways Through First 4 Games
Lack Of Poise In Front Of Goal: The Islanders have been shut out twice in the first four games of the season, and in both, they had prime chances to score. The two misses that stand out are Brock Nelson's having the puck behind Dallas Stars netminder Jake Oettinger and Bo Horvat's missing a wide-open net from the low slot on Thursday night against the St. Louis Blues.
Simon Holmstrom’s Lack Of Shooting: The talk of training camp was how confident Holmstrom was in his shot. Playing with Jean-Gabriel Pageau and Anders Lee, shooting is a must, and through four games, he has only recorded one shot on goal at 5-on-5.
Anthony Duclair’s Overtime Reads: The Islanders have lost two games in overtime, and Duclair was on the ice for both game-winning goals. In the season opener, he couldn’t get back in time. On Thursday, he covered Joel Hofer, trying to pick off his outlet pass, leaving the Islanders to defend a 3-on-1 rush, ultimately scoring. For someone who has speed, one would think he would be able to get into better positioning on both.
