Alan Fuehring Named New Radio Voice Of The New York Islanders
Fuehring, a longtime voice of the Bridgeport Islanders, now takes the mic for this new era.
Alan Fuehring will be the new radio voice of the New York Islanders, The Elmonters can confirm. Newsday’s Neil Best was first to report.
Fuehring, 35, has been calling games for the Bridgeport Islanders, the club’s AHL affiliate, since 2016 while also serving as Bridgeport’s director of public relations.
Since April 2022, Fuehring has filled in on MSG Networks broadcasts—calling play-by-play when Brendan Burke was on national assignments or stepping in as host when Shannon Hogan was unavailable.
“It’s an incredible honor to join the New York Islanders for this new era, and I look forward to bringing my own perspective to the booth, which will include some new ideas that directly make Isles fans part of the broadcasts,” Fuehring told The Elmonters. “It has been a lifelong goal to be an NHL broadcaster, and more importantly, to work for one of the NHL’s most iconic franchises.’
A graduate of Bradley University with a bachelor’s degree in communication, Fuehring began his professional hockey broadcasting career as an intern with the AHL’s Peoria Rivermen.
His mentor was none other than Burke, who was Peoria’s play-by-play broadcaster at the time. That internship not only gave Fuehring early professional experience but also forged a mentorship connection that has paid tremendous dividends.
After his internship, Fuehring became the voice of the ECHL’s Greenville Swamp Rabbits, where he was named a finalist for the CHL Broadcaster of the Year Award in 2016.
Immediately after that recognition, the Islanders brought him aboard.
Over his decade with the club, Fuehring took every opportunity to build his reputation. He earned fill-in assignments on Chicago Blackhawks radio and television broadcasts and stepped in for Chris King on Islanders radio.
In line with many organizational changes, the Islanders have chosen to adopt a philosophy that John Collins has often employed: build from within and always have the next person ready to move up in the organization.
And that continues here.
The organization recognizes the importance of radio to its fan base and also knew that Fuehring’s talent, along with his years of connection to Islanders fans, made him the perfect choice to step behind the microphone for this new era of Islanders hockey.
It is not known who Alan Fuehring’s color commentator will be, but it is believed that he’ll have multiple throughout the season.
Great news that they seem to understand the value of radio and the mistake they made. Next stop is a radio station with more reach
