A hockey season is full of unknowns. But there’s one constant on Long Island — New York Islanders defenseman Alexander Romanov being the first one on the ice for practice.

Before every game, whether at UBS Arena or on the road, Romanov can also be seen walking around the bench area a few hours before puck drop, staring out into the empty crowd.
