The Added Value Shanahan Would Bring To Long Island
Would Shanahan come aboard if he didn't have the final say on hockey decisions?
On Wednesday, the Toronto Maple Leafs gave the New York Islanders permission to interview their team president, Brendan Shanahan.
Shanahan, who has been Toronto's president since 2014, will meet with MLSE, Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, today to discuss his future, as he's on an expiring deal.
Right now, I feel that if Shanahan wants the Islanders' president gig, it's his. I don't think the door is closed on the former NHLer returning to Toronto despite their struggles to get over the hump.
Given the stress of the Toronto market, it wouldn't be surprising if Shanahan took some time off from the game.
Many look at Shanahan's time with Toronto and wonder what he's done to deserve a presidential job elsewhere.
Here's why it would be smart for the Islanders to bring him in and why there is zero rush to sign a president.
