Call-Up Options & Opportunity; Operation Shower
With rosters expanded, the Islanders may be calling up a prospect or two soon.
The New York Islanders still have their sights set on making the playoffs, waking up on Thursday morning five points back of the second wild-card spot.
So, I don’t expect a total recall from Bridgeport.
However, with the rosters expanded and the Islanders only having one extra forward rostered — Matt Martin is available but the Islanders went with defenseman Adam Boqvist as a center against the Anaheim Ducks — there’s a need for another forward to make its way up.
Looking at the current bottom six, there’s no reason why a young player can’t challenge for a spot from now until the rest of the season.
Engvall-Cizikas-Tsyplakov
Fasching-MacLean-Gatcomb
It’s clear as day that Pierre Engvall’s game is not something head coach Patrick Roy loves and it’s very likely that the final five years of No. 18’s contract will be bought out.
Hudson Fasching, 29, and a pending unrestricted free agent, plays the game hard and plays the game the right way. But, the production has been M.I.A., with just one assist in 26 games.
Marc Gatcomb, 25, burst onto the scene when recalled, hitting everything in sight and adding energy to a desperately needed lineup. However, that energy has faded lately.
It’s not ideal for the Islanders to call up a potential top-six forward and play them in the bottom six. But, ice time is ice time.
The question is, who would get recalled?
