On Wednesday afternoon, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported that the Anaheim Ducks are placing Chris Kreider on waivers for the purpose of contract termination.
Kreider has just this season left on his $6.5 million contract, with only $4 million in cash still due after receiving a signing bonus on July 1.
The belief is that the longtime New York Rangers forward wants to return East. Yes, he has those ties to Broadway, but he is also from Massachusetts, with the Boston Bruins a likely landing spot once he clears waivers.
Of course, a move can’t happen unless a portion of New York Islanders fans get up in arms about why they haven’t or can’t get the guy.
A gritty guy who crashes the net, scores goals, is a leader, and can fly up the ice is a player the Islanders could use.
However, on the off chance that Kreider did want to come to Long Island — there’s no reason to think that’s where his heart lies — here’s why a move for Kreider doesn’t make much sense for the Islanders right now.
