Heineman Hammering Home His Place In Islanders Country
Emil Heineman forced overtime with a clutch 6-on-4 power-play goal late in regulation, showcasing his all-around impact as the Islanders salvaged a point despite a 3–2 shootout loss to the Sabres.
BUFFALO, NY — With the New York Islanders looking for an equalizer against the Buffalo Sabres, it was Emil Heineman who hammered home a 6-on-4 power-play goal with 29 seconds to play in regulation to secure at least a point for the Blue & Orange.
The Islanders could not complete the comeback, falling 3-2 after a five-round shootout. Heineman, who was 4-for-4 in shootouts entering the game, missed his first attempt of the season.
“It was a good feeling getting the tying goal there at the end,” Heineman said postgame. “I think we showed a lot of character. I didn’t like our start, and I don’t think anyone did. In the second half, we really showed who we are and started building back toward where we were.”
Not only did the tying goal come on Emil Heineman’s 10th shot of the night — a new single game career high — but it also pushed him to 18 points (12 goals, six assists), tying his career high from last season, when he scored 10 goals with eight assists in 62 games.
