Islanders Outshoot Anaheim Ducks 42-22, Yet Fall 3-1 At UBS Arena
ELMONT, NY -- The New York Islanders began a back-to-back set Tuesday, hosting the Anaheim Ducks before Wednesday's game against the Blue Jackets in Columbus.
Incredibly, the Isles outshot the Ducks 42-22, however came up short, losing 3-1.
New York came out strong in the first, but Anaheim settled things down and went to the power play on a Pierre Engvall holding penalty. In the back half of the penalty kill, Mason McTavish sent a pass back high to Frank Vatrano, settled on the right side. Vatrano let a shot go that was tipped by Leo Carlsson past Ilya Sorokin, giving Anaheim a 1-0 lead at 14:05 of the first.
The Islanders outshot the Ducks 13-9 in the period but trailed 1-0 after 20 minutes. Anaheim had only one more turnover than New York in the frame, leading 8-7, and had four takeaways to the Islanders' two.
Special teams continued for the Islanders in the second period, with New York going 0-for-2 on the power play. With seven minutes to go in the frame, Engvall took his second penalty of the night, and Anaheim once again made the Islanders pay.

Islanders Bo Horvat Takes Blame For Top-Line Struggles, Discusses Mat Barzal's Play; Patrick Roy On What He's Seeing From His Top Line
EAST MEADOW, NY -- The New York Islanders have scored 13 goals at 5-on-5 this season.
The top line has scored two of them, one coming from the injured Anthony Duclair, who is out for 4-6 weeks with a lower-body injury.
Bo Horvat has one 5-on-5 goal.
Mathew Barzal has zero 5-on-5 points.
Simon Holmstrom, who is filling Duclair's role, has one 5-on-5 point, an assist which came on a line with Anders Lee and Jean-Gabriel Pageau.
It's not from a lack of chances for either three. It's not from a systems failure perspective.
It comes down to one thing.

Islanders Not 'Comfortable' With Who They've Tried In Final Two Forward Spots, Looking For Someone To Rise To Occasion
EAST MEADOW, NY -- The New York Islanders never had to worry about who was manning the fourth line on a nightly basis.
Matt Martin, Casey Cizikas, and Cal Clutterbuck were the guys for around a decade, but Clutterbuck is gone; Martin won't be an everyday player, and it's been an issue trying to fill those roles.
"I won't lie," Roy said. "Spot number 11 and 12, we don't feel comfortable yet with the guys, and we're going to try until we find the guys that we are comfortable with."

Escaping Elmont; Isles Hit The Road Hoping To Right The Ship
After falling 3-1 to the Anaheim Ducks despite outshooting them 44-22, the Islanders head to Columbus for a battle with the Blue Jackets (4-3-1). It’s the first of a three-game road trip, which ends at Madison Square Garden on Sunday afternoon against the New York Rangers after the Islanders battle the Buffalo Sabers (4-5-1) on Friday.
Getting out of Long Island may be the best thing for the team right now. After beating the New Jersey Devils 4-3 in overtime on Friday in Jersey, they returned home for two games, losing both in regulation. They were outscored 9-4.
In both contests, the Islanders have had their chances to win, up 3-0 on the Florida Panthers early on Saturday before allowing six unanswered goals in a 6-3 loss.
