Exclusive: Marc Gatcomb On His Future
The 25-year-old has enjoyed his time with the Islanders and living on Long Island.
When the New York Islanders signed Marc Gatcomb to a one-year, entry-level deal this summer, it seemed like a move to bolster Bridgeport’s depth.
Gatcomb, a 25-year-old Massachusetts native, had been with the Vancouver Canucks AHL affiliate, the Abbotsford Canucks since 2021-22, after a four-year career at the University of Connecticut.
He went undrafted.
In 112 games for Abbotsford, Gatcomb had 13 goals with 19 assists for 32 points.
His best season came last year, with nine goals and 11 assists for 20 points in 61 games.
Gatcomb tied his AHL career high in goals in 35 games with Bridgeport, before being recalled on Jan. 14 on an emergency basis.
Pretty much since then, he’s been a staple on the Islanders’ fourth line, bringing the physicality, determination, and, surprisingly, an offensive spark to a line that desperately needed it.
Through his first 30 NHL games, he has seven points with six goals, an assist, adding 111 hits, and 13 blocks, while averaging 9:20 minutes per game.
While I do not believe contract talks have started between the Islanders and Gatcomb’s camp, he is a pending restricted free agent, and it is a no-brainer for him to be back in 2025-26. He carries a qualifying offer of $813,750 and is arbitration eligible.
Don’t be shocked if he gets a deal similar to what Kyle MacLean got, a three-year, $775k deal.
Following Tuesday’s morning skate, I met with Gatcomb to discuss his future.
