How A Win Over Vegas Can Set The Stage For That Win Streak The Islanders Keep Talking About
The Islanders need a streak to get back into a wild-card spot and a win over the best team in the NHL could be the start of something special for this group looking at their upcoming schedule.
Before we get to today’s column, we just want to send our support to everyone affected by the wildfires in California right now. What’s going on out there is devastating, and we hope that anyone you know is safe.
Stringing wins together has not been the forte of the New York Islanders this season.
However, if they want to regain a playoff spot eventually, they must go on a streak.
Tonight, they battle a beast of a hockey club, the Vegas Golden Knights, the best team in the NHL, who are 8-2-0 in their last 10 games.
Islanders head coach Patrick Roy said this game isn’t a measuring stick “because [calling it] a measuring stick means you win the game, and you say, 'Okay, we're there.' I don't want to think that way. If we win this game, I want to win the next game. So that's the mindset we should have.”
That’s the right mindset to have.
It’s always been a game-by-game mindset, but it’s hard not to look past the game in the desert and think about that win streak they keep talking about.
