You need a certain mentality to be a professional athlete. You need immeasurable passion. Your compete level has to be a 10 and never waver, regardless of the results. That’s the only way to make it.

But not every pro career goes the way it was intended. Sometimes a top pick’s path to the NHL isn’t a straight line. There are bumps in the road, and how you navigate those bumps defines your career.

We all have role models, choosing them for different reasons. For me, it was the smaller athletes, or the ones without elite skill, who had to grind daily to achieve their goals.

As an undersized kid, I looked up to players who had to work harder than the rest.

And that’s why I connected so strongly with Hudson Fasching.
