Varlamov's Resiliency Paves The Way In Islanders Shootout Win
ELMONT, NY -- New York Islanders netminder Semyon Varlamov was not pleased after Cole Caufield's 3-3 tying goal with 2:10 to play in regulation.
"100 percent, that was frustrating," Varlamov said postgame. "I didn't want to give up that goal. As a goalie, it's your job to make a big save in the key moments like that, and the puck went in."
But, the grizzled veteran bounced back, making three saves in the overtime period before only allowing two shootout goals on nine attempts.
"That's Varly," Islanders head coach Patrick Roy said postgame.

If Duclair Misses Time, Tsyplakov Should Get First Look On Islanders Top Line
At 3:19 of the third period, Islanders top-line left winger Anthony Duclair suffered an apparent lower-body injury:
The 29-year-old laid on the ice for a bit before being helped off the ice.
He did not return, and there was no update postgame.
“I didn’t see what happened because the puck was coming into our zone,” Islanders head coach Patrick Roy said. “So, I was a little surprised to see him down. But I’m sure we’ll have an update tomorrow.”
The Islanders are off on Sunday, so the earliest we’ll get a Duclair update is at Monday’s practice.
The hope is that Duclair doesn’t have to miss any time, but given his reaction after a non-contact injury, it doesn’t bode well, so we’ll see.
If Duclair does have to miss time, even if it’s just a game, who slots in alongside Bo Horvat and Mathew Barzal on the Islanders’ top line?
There are options, but the best option is rookie Maxim Tsyplakov, and here’s why.
