NEWS & THE SKINNY
Before we get to Sorokin, check out more Islanders news links & “The Skinny” from Eric Hornick (Brendan Burke and Butch Goring’s MSG Networks statistician). The site is updated after each game with incredible statistics and facts.
Another Hornick Faceoff Gem: Kyle MacLean won 12 of 15 draws and has won 25 of 35 (71.4%) to start the season.

Brock Nelson, Ilya Sorokin Lead Islanders To First Win Of 2024-25 NHL Season, Beat Avalanche 6-2 In Colorado
After losing their first two games of the 2024-25 NHL season, the New York Islanders got in the win column after defeating the Colorado Avalanche 5-2 on Monday night.
Brock Nelson led the way with two goals, while Ilya Sorokin was brilliant, making 32 saves on 34 shots in his return to the crease.
The Islanders, who have had defensive miscues through the first two games of the season, did so again, allowing Avalanche rookie Calum Ritchie to score from the low-slot, unguarded, just 1:01 in the game.
Ilya Sorokin -- Worth The Wait
In his first start of the season on Monday, Ilya Sorokin was brilliant, stopping 32 of 34 to help the Islanders to their first win.
Coming back from offseason back surgery put Sorokin behind the eight-ball, missing the first week of training camp and the entire preseason.
He told me that timing was the hardest thing to readjust to, but on Monday, Sorokin had zero issues with that.
