Interview With Islanders Rookie Marc Gatcomb
Gatcomb, 25, has impressed through his first two NHL games.
New York Islanders rookie forward Marcus Gatcomb played in his second NHL game on Saturday night in their 4-1 win against the San Jose Sharks.
The 25-year-old has done exactly what’s needed: laying the body, blocking shots, getting in on the forecheck, and has shown a willingness to drive the net.
Through two games, he has a block, 11 hits, and a takeaway in 18:50 total minutes.
“It's always fun to see a guy taking advantage of his opportunity and asking questions,” Islanders head coach Patrick Roy said. “And you want him to learn from the vets. But I'll say this. I thought he’s played well. He's got some speed and protects the puck well. I thought when they were in the OZP, they did a great job. You don't need to be flashy. You just try to make a move. And the move that he made on the disallowed goal, it was pretty, pretty, solid.”
Following Sunday’s practice, I caught up with Gatcomb to get his thoughts on the following:
Has it sunk in that he is living the dream?
What’s it like to make his debut surrounded by a few Bridgeport teammates, Isaiah George and Marcus Hogberg?
What’s Hogberg like away from the rink?
How tough has Bridgeport’s season been?
How much is he learning from the NHL vets?
What’s it like playing for Patrick Roy?
