EAST MEADOW, NY — Just 48 hours after New York Islanders general manager Mathieu Darche publicly voiced his confidence in 22-year-old defenseman Isaiah George, the former 2022 fourth-round pick was on the ice for Day 1 of development camp.
George, who has 37 NHL games under his belt and more professional experience than anyone else on the ice Sunday, was one of a handful of familiar faces in attendance.
I asked George whether his presence at development camp was something the organization requested or something he pushed for himself.
He said he was asked to be here, but he wanted to be here regardless.
