Islanders Face Red Wings In Final Game Of Season-Long Road Trip
The Islanders, who are 1-1-2 so far on road trip, could be heading home feeling much better with a win in Detroit tonight.
With the Canadian leg of their road trip in the books, the New York Islanders (7-7-5) return to the States and face the Detroit Red Wings (7-9-2) in the Motor City. Puck drop is at 7 PM ET, and the game can be found on MSGSN2.
The Islanders fell in a 1-0 defeat to the Red Wings in their first meeting this season. Patrick Kane’s first-period goal stood up as the game-winner despite the Islanders outshooting Detroit 30-11. Alex Lyon earned the shutout with 30 saves.

Pierre Engvall enters play on Thursday with goals in three straight games. It’s the third such streak of his career, last accomplishing the feat in March 2023.
After the Islanders went scoreless against the Red Wings the last time they met, eyes will be on Brock Nelson to break the ice. He leads the Islanders in goals and assists against Detroit with 16 and 26, respectively. Anders Lee and Kyle Palmieri have 12 assists against the Red Wings to lead the team.
Ilya Sorokin will return to the crease for New York, once again in search of his 100th career win. He came up short in his last attempt against the Kraken, taking the loss with three goals on 27 shots. Against Detroit, he is 4-3-2 with a 2.52 GAA and .908 SV%, taking the loss with 10 saves on 11 shots in their last meeting.
OPPONENT’S NOTES:
Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin is two assists shy of 300 for his NHL career. After recording a goal and an assist on Tuesday, he could become the 15th Red Wing in team history to accomplish this milestone. The forward has 223 goals and 298 assists for 521 points in 670 games.
Vladimir Tarasenko has a four-game assist streak, tallying four in as many games. He entered the streak after boasting only one for the season. Alex Debrincat also enters Thursday with points in four straight games, tallying two goals and three assists in that span.
After his game-winner in their last meeting, Kane furthered his team lead in scoring across the board the Islanders. The forward boasts 14 goals and 13 assists for 27 points in 24 games; Larkin is tied with Kane in helpers in his career against the Islanders.
After earning the shutout in his last meeting against the Islanders, Lyon will once again be in net for the Red Wings. He last started against the Anaheim Ducks on Nov. 15, letting up five goals in a loss. In two games against New York, he is 1-1-0 with a 2.02 GAA and .929 SV%.
