EAST MEADOW, NY — Tonight, the New York Islanders will debut their Fisherman Hometown Remix jerseys when they host the Carolina Hurricanes.

This logo was once one of the most controversial in NHL history.

When it debuted in 1995, it became the symbol of a struggling franchise, representing a dark period in Islanders history that many fans would rather forget.

In 2022, the Islanders revived the design with their Reverse Retro jerseys, going 3-3-0 while wearing them as the Fisherman once again took over UBS Arena.

But the Fisherman’s latest return, featuring a design that closely resembles the original, presents an opportunity to do something that once seemed unthinkable:

Change the legacy of one of hockey's most polarizing jerseys.

The Islanders can’t change what happened three decades ago, but the players wearing the Fisherman today can change what it represents going forward.
