Islanders Going Will 11 Forwards, 7 Defensemen vs. Sabres, Lineups & Notes
Jean-Gabriel Pageau will miss his second straight game, while Pierre Engvall is a healthy scratch.
ELMONT, NY — After suffering another third-period implosion on Friday evening, the New York Islanders (8-10-6) return to UBS Arena and face the Buffalo Sabres (11-10-2) on Saturday.
With Scott Mayfield banged up but still set to play after taking a puck to the face last night, the Islanders are running 11 forwards and seven defensemen.
Pierre Engvall will serve as a healthy scratch, with head coach Patrick Roy saying he didn’t like the fact that Pierre was playing to the outside. Roy needs to see him crash the net.
The Islanders will be without Jean-Gabriel Pageau for a second straight night as he’s day-to-day with a lower-body injury.
Ilya Sorokin will start for the Islanders.
He let up five goals in his last outing against the Boston Bruins. Against Buffalo, he is 6-3-2 with a 2.64 GAA and .914 SV%, earning the win with 32 saves in their last meeting.
James Reimer will start for Buffalo. He last started against the San Jose Sharks last Saturday, making 31 saves in a win. Against New York, he is 9-3-2 in 17 games with a 2.83 GAA and .914 SV%, earning a win with 33 saves on 36 on March 21 with the Detroit Red Wings.

Not sure why they have such a commitment to Walhstrom it’s quite remarkable. You bench Engvall which is deserved, and you keep throwing Wally out there???? Again with Karlstrom and Foudy producing down in Bridgeport it’s strange. Engvall is the ultimate enigma, he needs to work with Adam Oates. Would love to see those results.
This team will jell and make the playoffs. The underlying metrics especially at 5 on 5 are good. PP is a train wreck that honestly can’t get worse. The new pairings of penalty killers especially Nelson and Palms has been good.
