We most likely are on the cusp of the most exciting time in Islanders history outside the Cup Years. Ownership ✅ Management ✅ Building through the Draft ✅ Solid Veteran Leadership still in prime ✅ Facilities and Arena ✅ all the pieces are in place. The whole Belmont Park area is unique and great times are ahead for this franchise. The possibility that the Island becomes a destination is finally becoming a reality. It’s imperative this team wins this year and gets some seasoning in the playoffs.
No doubt the team can have a Barry like bounce with Pete. He is a super established coach with an edge like Barry. I loved Patrick, but is Peter a more polished HC the answer is yes. More importantly Pete is coming along at a time when young talent is going to be injected into this team, a lot of young talent.
Absolutely love Romanov’s game. As long as he stays healthy he will be productive. Unfortunately he has to prove he can both play his style and play 80 Games. Him obliterating opponents is a huge part of his game, let’s hope we see that. If I was Romanov I would have trained boxing during this period. He seemed to be 💯 % at the end of the season. He alone should lay a beating on Mikko Rantenen. Look I agree that he shouldn’t have to fight after delivering big hits, but it’s needed on some occasions. What Rantenen did to him showed blatant disregard and was an absolute attempt to injury. The following week or so he threw a similar hit on a Calgary player. Playing for Dallas gives him the confidence and comfort to throw those hits. For every fan that complains about Brendon Schenn Trade, know the days of the feeble response by the Islanders are over. Aitcheson, Nelson, and Prokhorov are coming. Aitcheson is very similar to Scott Stevens. The Tide is turning and no one will be taking liberties anymore. That hit by Rantenen deserves an immediate response, and it reflected badly on everyone in that locker room in my opinion. Yes, Dallas is a big physical team but not to immediately deal with it in the aftermath is wrong. Darche knows the team doesn’t have enough grit and he is changing it. Schenn will not only produce but will change the attitude and atmosphere in the locker room. Darche is addressing everything we just need to stay the course. F$&K the PTO on liane, another reach like Engvall or DuClair. Obviously the PTO is less expensive then the 4 or 8 year deals given to the other two lol 😂, but still don’t waste your money Mr. Darche. You got Cole Eiserman if he comes into camp and lights it up get him into the top six. Trust me the power play will heat up immediately. Shooting will no longer be an issue. I am going on the record Eiserman will be every bit as productive and effective as Cole Caufield. He can’t get caught up mentally go out and be Eiserman and let those No Timers Go, and play enough D that it’s a non issue having you out there.
I would slot Eklund with JG on line three. Less pressure there and he is an all around talent. Let him break in there similar to Holmstrom. Possible line combos Heinman - JG - Eklund Eklund - JG - Palmeri. As far as Liane, forget it he is a dog with fleas I wouldn’t even give him the PTO. This is Professional Sports the Islanders understand it’s a Zero Sum Game WIN! If you can’t help us do that we don’t want you going forward!
Simple if Engvall doesn’t light it up literally in Camp send him to Hamilton. Give him a season ticket AHL 🎫 bus pass next to McKee. Pencil ✏️ his ass into the lineup on a nightly basis. Make him earn every penny of that contract for four years or whatever is left on that terrible deal. I would also sit him down and let him know the two options NHL productive forward on line four, or 72 games in the AHL. If it’s AHL you grind him until he begs to go back to Sweden. Don’t play nice with this dude hold waivers and AHL over his head every day. Dude has no PRIDE or Heart unless you squeeze some out of him. Pete has an edge to him, guys like Engvall know that. Can Engvall help absolutely 💯, will he is the question. He didn’t make the team and was put on waivers with Patrick, then hurt last season. Make it clear to him you can earn your money in the NHL or the AHL Pierre!!! Good Luck 🍀 it’s up to you we don’t care either way, you’re going to be judged weekly also. So he completely understands he can be put on waivers at anytime, and if he is picked up great 👍
