Islanders Make NHL History With Fan Contest To Design Official 2027-28 Third Jersey
For the first time in NHL history, the New York Islanders are giving fans the chance to design an official on-ice jersey. Here's how the 2027-28 Third Jersey contest works.
New York Islanders fans, do we have some news for you.
For the first time in NHL history, an NHL team is giving its fans the opportunity to design an official on-ice jersey.
The Islanders announced on Wednesday that fans will have the chance to create the club’s next Third Jersey, which will debut during the 2027-28 season.
“Islanders fans are among the most passionate in all of sports, and their emotional investment is the heartbeat of this franchise. With this contest, we are breaking down traditional boundaries and inviting Isles Nation directly into the design room to do something that has never been done before in our league. Our Third Jersey will truly belong to the fans, born from their passion and chosen by their voice,” said Kelly Cheeseman, President of Business Operations for the Islanders and UBS Arena.
Here’s everything you need to know about the contest:
Fans can use a digital design tool featuring historic Islanders logos and patches, official team fonts, a wide range of colors, and NHL-approved jersey templates.
A notes section allows fans to explain design choices or submit custom ideas for the team to consider.
Submissions are open now through July 24, 2026.
An Islanders committee will review all entries and select five finalists.
The five finalists will be put up for a public fan vote in early August.
The winning design will become the Islanders’ official Third Jersey for the 2027-28 season.
The winning designer will receive a team-signed Third Jersey and tickets to a 2027-28 game to watch the sweater make its on-ice debut.
