Islanders More Prepared Than Ever For Start Of Season
Starting off strong has not been the New York Islanders’ bread and butter in years past but after Patrick Roy’s training camp, this team is prepared.
No, that doesn’t mean the club is going to go undefeated over its first 10 games—it’s technically not impossible—but Roy and his players have done everything in their power to ensure they are mentally and physically strong to combat any situation they face on the ice.
One thing that absolutely killed this team last season was blowing leads, especially in the third period. There were many reasons for this, but it usually came down to running out of gas.
Roy put his players through a skating gauntlet during camp, with sandbaggers a practice staple. For most teams, sandbag skates — back-and-forth skates from goal line to goal line — signify the end of practice.
