I’m a big Pelech fan but I think the Isles need to trade him this summer. There aren’t a lot of top d-men available, LD is an organizational strength since even if you trade Pelech you still have Schaefer, Romanov, George, Warren, and Aitcheson. Pelech could get you 2-3 good assets to improve depth in other places or use to acquire a player who better fits.
I don’t see a role for a 35 or 36 year old Pelech on this team when it’s ready to compete again. He played a full season for the only time in his career. He would probably touch off a bidding war because of how few players are available this summer. DeBoer, who knows his defense, says he thinks Isaiah George is an NHL defenseman right now, and as you rightly pointed out, Stefen, the Isles aren’t paying Romanov $6.25 million a year to play on the 3rd pair. I think this is something the Isles need to do.
Lee doesn’t come back at any price, time to move on from the player and the Captaincy Role. This is said with the utmost respect for him and his run on the Island.
