The New York Islanders are down to eight finalists in their fan-designed 2027-28 third jersey contest, with one of those designs having a pretty cool story behind it.

Adam Barcia, 26, from Selden, Long Island, was recently informed by the Islanders that his orange jersey design had made the final eight.

Here is my design that made it to the final 8. It seems like there’s a lot of mixed emotions and opinions on the finalists but I’m looking forward to seeing the winning design on the ice no matter the outcome. Go Islanders! @NYIslanders

The inspiration behind Barcia’s design goes back more than 15 years.
