ELMONT, NY — After a hard-fought 60-minute affair against their cross-town rival New York Rangers, it was the New York Islanders who left the ice with a 2-0 shutout victory.

The Islanders faithful in attendance went wild when the final buzzer sounded, signaling the club’s second shutout of the Blueshirts in as many games after blanking them 5-0 on Nov. 8.

In the past — even earlier this season — a win like this would have felt monumental.

This time, it didn’t.
