After an inexcusable performance in Carolina, which capped off a week full of debilitating defeats, New York Islanders general manager Mathieu Darche had seen enough.

Patrick Roy has been fired, with two seasons left on his deal. It was evident his message wasn’t resonating — not nearly enough. Honestly, a veteran team bolstered even further before the 2026 NHL Trade Deadline shouldn’t require extra motivation from a Hockey Hall of Famer, but I digress.

There are a few things that cost Roy his job after 184 games behind the bench.
