Trade Request Rumors Aside, Could Islanders Make A Play For Devils Defenseman Simon Nemec?

Even if the Simon Nemec trade-request rumors aren’t true, the fit between the young Devils defenseman and the New York Islanders still makes a ton of sense.

As of right now, the New York Islanders have yet to sign pending unrestricted free agent Tony DeAngelo to an extension.

While DeAngelo has produced offensively since arriving on Long Island and has expressed interest in staying, general manager Mathieu Darche may prefer to go younger on the right side of the defense.

Or, Darche could look to move a different defenseman, allowing the Islanders to keep DeAngelo while still adding another piece to the blue line.

With the free-agent market expected to be thin yet again, that likely means exploring the trade market.

Could New Jersey Devils defenseman Simon Nemec be a name Darche circles back to after he reportedly showed interest in the young blue-liner last summer?
