With Time Ticking, Eight Islanders Thoughts

The Islanders have lost three straight and don’t look like a playoff team. From Sorokin’s workload to power-play struggles and lineup questions, here are my thoughts with five games to go.

ELMONT, NY — It’s a tough time to lose three in a row.

Those were the words of New York Islanders captain Anders Lee and head coach Patrick Roy after a 4-1 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers on Friday night — their third straight defeat.

Despite holding onto third place in the Metropolitan Division, the Islanders aren’t playing like a team that wants to be in the postseason. An 8-3 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday, followed by a 4-3 loss to the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday, set the tone before Friday’s latest setback.

“We’ve got to find a way to get some energy, to look after one another, and fix our mistakes,” Lee said. “Our mistakes are killing us right now, and it’s putting us behind in games, and it’s costing us points. So, we got to regroup but look after one another.”

The Islanders will have a chance to reset when they take on the Carolina Hurricanes tonight.

Here are my thoughts with five games to go.
