At some point this week, New York Islanders hockey will officially be back, with prospects arriving on Long Island. Even after a development camp following the 2025 NHL Draft, the organization’s young players — at least those not staying in college or overseas — will be back on the ice, trying to prove their worth.

All of them share one goal: to become NHL rookies, whether that happens this season or in the near future.

Very few of the prospects at rookie camp will make the Islanders this fall — but the number isn’t zero.

The Islanders are deep at every position, especially on the wings and down the middle, even after Brock Nelson’s departure. That depth will make for a fierce fight for the final roster spots. ,

So, who’s in the mix, and what do they need to prove to win an NHL gig?
