Inside Islanders Goalie Semyon Varlamov’s First AHL Start Since Double Knee Procedures
A detailed look at Islanders goalie Semyon Varlamov’s first AHL start since double knee surgery.
When we spoke with general manager Mathieu Darche on Wednesday, following the conclusion of the New York Islanders’ season, he told us that goaltender Semyon Varlamov was being loaned to Bridgeport on a conditioning stint.
Varlamov, 37, last played in the NHL on Nov. 29, 2024, before undergoing procedures on both knees. He has one season remaining on his $2.75 million deal.
I asked Darche if Varlamov could be a viable backup option to Ilya Sorokin for the 2026–27 season.
