ELMONT, NY — Jean-Gabriel Pageau (upper body) returning to the New York Islanders lineup on Tuesday night against the Vegas Golden Knights is not a shock, given how much progress he’s made over the last week or so.

When we spoke to No. 44 before the team left for Tampa, he said he usually beats his injury timeline, and he’s done so by a good two weeks, after his initial absence was expected to last until Christmas.

What’s more shocking is where he is stationed in the lineup. He’ll skate alongside Mathew Barzal as No. 13’s right winger. However, when you dive deeper into the decision, it makes complete sense.
