Latest on Ilya Sorokin, Maxim Tsyplakov's Special Shootout Move
For the first time, we saw Ilya Sorokin taking shots as he works his way back from offseason back surgery. Also, Maxim Tsyplakov showed off his go-to shootout shot, which we got on video.
Good morning, guys!
To start things off, we have an exclusive on Maxim Tsyplakov’s shootout-winning goal in practice, a nifty backhand top-shelf move that should have fans really excited.
When the season begins, The Elmonters will transition to include most content via paid subscription. This story on Tsyplakov is the type of exclusive content that will be included in a paid subscription. Hope you enjoy!
EAST MEADOW, NY — Frans Nielsen hasn’t worn a New York Islanders sweater since the 2015-16 season.
But newcomer Maxim Tsyplakov could have fooled us with the backhand move he pulled off in the Islanders shootout game on Wednesday:
Before beginning, head coach Patrick Roy said that the team that lost the shootout game would need to do an extra bag skate.
Tsyplakov’s goal gave Team White the lead, and Marcus Hogberg put the win in the books:
Following the skate, I asked a few players about Tsyplakov’s shootout move:
Jean-Gabriel Pageau: “I've seen him do this move a couple of times during training camp. He’s very good at being very patient, and he's smart. You have to be to have that composure with the puck, one on one versus a goalie. When you look at him, he has his heads up, seeing what his options are on the goalie. And he's been doing that move very well.”
Casey Cizikas: “He’s a high-skill player that you know has a nose for the back of the net, so I'm not too surprised when he pulls off things like that […] old Franzy.”
Brock Nelson: “We’ve that one from Sippy a couple of times in practice. So we were thinking he was gonna try it. I wish I was on white today.”
Kyle MacLean: “He's got that moved down. It’s pretty silky. That was cool. It was a big goal, too, so we didn’t have to skate extra. That was just a sick move. Really smooth, made it look easy, and put it upstairs, which was nice.”
I then asked Roy about Tsyplakov’s confidence, pulling off that move but also from what we’ve seen in preseason:
“I have to admit. He seems very confident in what he does, and I think he knows he's got some talent, meaning that he makes some great plays. I'm sure Palmieri and Nelson will have a good time playing with him.”
