EAST MEADOW, NY — On Sunday, the New York Islanders announced that they had signed left-handed defenseman Logan Stanley to a one-year deal.
The deal comes in at $1.5 million, a move that made it abundantly clear the club didn’t feel comfortable with Isaiah George’s play throughout the preseason.
Stanley, standing at 6-foot-7 and weighing 231 pounds, brings — obviously — the size and physicality this club could surely use more of.
The 28-year-old defenseman wasn’t re-signed by the Buffalo Sabres, who acquired him from the Winnipeg Jets on March 5.
The Islanders had talks with his camp throughout the summer, but with George aiming for a roster spot and Matthew Kessel added, there was no need.
Now, Stanley, who played for Islanders assistant coach Rocky Thompson with the OHL’s Windsor Spitfires, has a few days to prepare for opening night, which comes Wednesday at 7:30 PM ET against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
