KINGS PARK, NY — About seven years ago, a group of top Long Island hockey players, many of them good friends, decided to start a summer league at Superior Ice Rink in Kings Park.

Fast-forward years later, and many of these kids who once donned the Black and Red Long Island Royals sweaters in their youth have reached the ultimate dream of playing in the National Hockey League.

But no matter how far they’ve advanced in the sport, they haven’t forgotten their roots. Every summer, they come back to the rink where many of them grew up playing.
