Marc Gatcomb's Unexpected NHL Debut; Islanders Lay A Goose Egg
The Islanders failed to score against Ottawa on a night where a youngster made his NHL debut.
One minute, Marc Gatcomb is skating at the Bridgeport Islanders practice facility.
The next, he’s skating on a line with Matt Martin and Kyle MacLean for his NHL debut.
With Jean-Gabriel Pageau battling whatever illness is making its way around the New York Islanders locker room, Gatcomb was emergency recalled from Bridgeport.
“I didn't really know If I was going to play until I was on my way here,” Gatcomb shared postgame. “I actually found out during the car ride.”
Gatcomb, a 25-year-old undrafted centerman who spent four years at UConn, had nine goals and eight assists for 17 points in 34 games with Bridgeport.
He earned the call-up even if he wasn’t a name many fans recognized.
