Matthew Schaefer Celebrates Calder Trophy Win With Islanders Brass At Long Island's Louie’s
Matthew Schaefer’s memorable Calder Trophy day included Good Morning America, a heartfelt visit to Cohen Children’s Medical Center, and a special lunch at Long Island's Louie’s.
Matthew Schaefer had a very special Wednesday.
In the morning, his family and the Martins surprised him with the Calder Trophy on Good Morning America.
Later in the day, Schaefer spent the day at Cohen’s Children’s Hospital in New Hyde Park, where he, alongside the Islanders Children’s Foundation in partnership with Northwell Health, announced the upcoming opening of “The Jennifer Schaefer Child Support Center” in honor of his late mother, who passed away from breast cancer in February of 2024.
But between GMA and Cohen’s, Schaefer made another meaningful stop with the Calder.
That stop was Louie’s Prime Steak & Seafood in Port Washington.
As Schaefer continues to embrace life as a New York Islander and Long Island resident, few places capture the essence of the area quite like Louie’s, a waterfront staple known for its incredible food and gorgeous views of the Long Island Sound.
Joined by his family, girlfriend, and the Calder Trophy, Schaefer dined alongside Islanders owner Jon Ledecky, general manager Mathieu Darche, and his agent.
During the lunch, Islanders owner Scott Malkin joined via speakerphone, with the Islanders’ brass expressing how thrilled they are that Schaefer is an Islander.
Schaefer reciprocated, once again sharing how blessed he was to be a member of the Islanders and part of the Long Island community.
He did get a medium steak and a Caesar salad, the perfect lunch.
“We were so honored to host Matthew’s celebratory lunch here at Louie’s,” owner Gennaro Sbarro said. “He is a down-to-earth, talented young man and will do great things in his life.”
If you ever have the time to fine dine at Louie’s, do it!
From heading out east to Peconic Ice Rink, a spot where he found out he had made the Islanders, to the Martin household, to Elmont, where UBS Arena is located, to the bagel spots and all the amazing restaurants and sights, Schaefer has become a real Long Islander during his first year with the team.
But, there’s still much left to see.
“I still have to explore, but I’m an Islander.”
Media coordination for the lunch at Louie’s was handled by ETC. PR, a boutique public relations and social media agency specializing in hospitality, food, wellness, beauty, and lifestyle brands.
