Multiple Sources: Lou Lamoriello Will Not Be Part Of Islanders Future
Lamoriello had spent the last seven seasons as the president and general manager of the New York Islanders.
There’s been a lot of rumors swirling around that Lou Lamoriello would remain with the New York Islanders in some capacity once his contract runs out.
That will not be the case.
He will not be involved in the hockey operations department, nor will he be advising ownership, multiple sources have told The Elmonters.
The 82-year-old, who came to Long Island in 2018, has served as the Islanders’ team president and general manager for the past seven seasons.
On Apr. 22, the Islanders announced that they would not be renewing Lamoriello’s contract and that operating partner John Collins would be leading the search for the club’s next general manager.
On May 23, the Islanders officially announced the hiring of Mathieu Darche as their next general manager. His introductory press conference took place yesterday (Thursday) at UBS Arena.
During the press conference, Darche announced that he was retaining head coach Patrick Roy, but not assistant coaches Tommy Albelin and John MacLean — Lou's hires.
I confirmed with the team that assistant coach Benoit Desrosiers, whom Roy brought in shortly after being appointed head coach, will be retained.
Darche also relieved the entire Bridgeport coaching staff.
The first-time general manager had not yet made a decision on Stephen Pellegrini or Chris Lamoriello, the team’s assistant general managers.
