A Giant Way Out Of A Deep Islanders Hole
After an 0-3-0 start, the New York Islanders might need to take a page out of the New York Giants' playbook.
ELMONT, NY — After falling 5-2 to the Winnipeg Jets on Monday, the New York Islanders find themselves staring at an 0-3-0 record to start their season.
Many have already begun drawing comparisons to the New York Jets, who sit at 0-6-0, their season essentially lost before it ever got going.
Through the misery and the mistakes, Jets head coach Aaron Glenn continues to back his players and their decisions — a stance that’s only fueling more frustration among the fan base.
Islanders head coach Patrick Roy, in his own way, is doing the same — defending his veterans and protecting his group during postgame press conferences.
But while it’s only three games into an 82-game NHL season — compared to six in a 17-game NFL campaign — the Islanders understand the urgency. They need a win soon. Digging out of an early hole is always a daunting task, and they’ve seen firsthand how fast things can spiral.
It might soon reach the point where, if the Islanders want to turn things around before it’s too late, they’ll need to take a page out of the New York Giants’ playbook.
