EAST MEADOW, NY -- Athletes are people and we've seen how the trade deadline impacts the lives of not just the players on the move, but the teammates they leave behind. 

The New York Islanders made one move before the 2025 NHL Trade Deadline, trading Brock Nelson to the Colorado Avalanche. 

It was a move that made sense for the Islanders, given that Nelson wasn't re-signing and the trade market for a player of his skill set. 

But, losing the long-time Islanders forward, a goal scorer and alternate captain, was going to leave a hole in the room.

For Kyle Palmieri, he lost a teammate, a linemate, and a close, close friend.
