ELMONT, NY — Make it six straight losses for the New York Islanders after their uninspiring 4-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday night.

With the Montreal Canadiens winning, the Islanders find themselves five points back of the second wild-card, with Minnesota and Washington their next two opponents to conclude a three-game homestand.

With eight games to go, the Islanders would likely have to win out to punch their ticket to the playoffs.

The group Patrick Roy has iced recently hasn’t been good enough to get the job done, and whether the team waves the white flag or not, there are players waiting in the wings who deserve to draw back in.
