The 2026 Winter Olympics are in the books, and all the attention turns to the New York Islanders’ remaining 24 games. The Metro’s third-place team holds a four-point lead over the Columbus Blue Jackets and Washington Capitals, and the Blue Jackets just happen to be who is second on the pecking order when the team returns to play: Montreal Canadiens on Thursday and Columbus on Saturday.
Let’s get back into the swing of things with some important notes to touch on.
Health: The most important thing for the Islanders when it came to the Olympics was coming away unscathed. Minus a few facial lacerations for silver-medal winning Bo Horvat, he and Ondrej Palat are in good shape. A banged-up bunch for the majority of the first half and then some, which included Horvat, the Islanders enter their return to play as healthy as they can be after Calum Ritchie returned from a lower-body injury for their final pre-Olympic-break win against New Jersey.
