The Final Case For Mathieu Darche
Does Darche's experience as a two-time Stanley Cup champion executive trump his lack of experience as a general manager?
The New York Islanders general manager search seems to be wrapping up, with Marc Bergevin and Mathieu Darche as the finalists.
I reported on Monday evening that both had completed the second round of interviews. I can share that Darche had another interview on Tuesday, and I believe there’s another one coming today.
Experience has been a main focal point for the Islanders in their GM search, and it’s clear that, on the surface, Bergevin has much more experience.
Bergevin held the GM title in Montreal for 10 years, while Darche has never been a GM.
But how much should holding the title matter? And could one argue that Darche’s winning experiences outweigh his lack of “GM” experience?
