2. Get Richtie Esierman and D. Nelson signed and in the lineup. These guys are physically ready for the NHL.
3. Clear as much cap as possible via trade or buy out
4. Get Holmstrom Romanov and Dobson signed before an offer sheet complicates the situation.
5. Sign Mitch Marner using his friendship with Matt Martin and sell Long Island as the anti Toronto. Great school and Family life.
6. Kick Lou upstairs and hand GM duties to Patrick. Let him coach with a staff of his own choosing.
7. Money is going to be tight unfortunately, and I don’t see anyone helping us out of that situation. Make some magic happen and buyout.
8. If a large group of players can get the same results over the Summer as Lee did we will contend. However these players have to have the balls and will Lee had. Train with Adam Oates on their own dime, and have a commitment to transform themselves. I have the utmost respect for what Lee has done this year. Bravo, dude you have revived your career through hard work and self reflection. Follow the Captain Barzel & Dobson, because you simply aren’t good enough! I question if they have to self awareness and drive to make themselves significantly better.
If Lou was a true leader he would fall on his sword. Take responsibility and call it a career. I would be very surprised if management didn’t make a change. It would be a ballsy move to continue with “In Lou We Trust”. He isn’t much of a help to season ticket sales, not very open to the fans. Me personally I would love to see everything under Patty.
The Horvat trade was excellent no doubt. Raty looks like he filled out, he is on course to be a very good center. We were lucky to draft him. Similar situation to Esierman in that his draft stock took a hit leading up to the draft. With all this drama around Petterson in Vancouver the kid has a chance to really establish himself as an NHL player. The fans loved the kid at UBS, you recognized then the kid had potential. I think we are entering a phase where we need to be patient and incorporate our top prospects into our lineup. Let the kids play, there are plenty of mentors and vets in that locker room. Hopefully we continue to get super lucky in the draft.
The season is over! They disappointed plain and simple. You can blame injuries, but in reality it’s talent. Barzel is a good player not a great player. The PP has been dreadful for many years. Lou lives in denial, he expects this group to be better than they truly are. Dobson is supposed to be a budding Norris Trophy candidate by now, he is barely serviceable. Even if we did what we did the last two years, it’s going to result in a gentleman’s sweep. Lou is crafty I’m sure he is selling stability to management. They have been a disappointment for the last four years! This team has some good pieces, but some dynamic pieces need to be added. Honestly they have to catch lightning in a bottle in Free Agency, and hope the trio of Eiserman, Richtie, and D. Nelson all turn out very well Immediately. Even with a Marner and these things happening you are still carrying a lot of dead weight and wasted AAV. It’s not a pretty picture and the hole gets deeper when you factor in the debacle at Bridgeport. I think management has been very quiet. Most likely they aren’t pleased either. There are no easy answers, but handing over hockey operations and the GM job to Patrick would be a start.
