Islanders Carefully Combing Through Candidates
Contrary to popular belief, the Islanders aren't running out of time to hire an executive.
On Apr. 23, the New York Islanders announced they were not renewing president and general manager Lou Lamoriello’s contract for the 2025-26 season.
Lamoriello, who came to Long Island in the summer of 2018, had signed one-year deals the last few seasons, per The Athletic’s Pierre LeBrun.
While Lou brought respect back to Long Island, with his best move being the hiring of Barry Trotz, failures in the last few seasons to be actual competitors signaled that it was time to move on.
It’s been a few weeks since the announcement, and the Islanders have not hired his replacement.
It’s a fluid situation, with information about the top candidate (s) for the job seemingly changing every 10 or so minutes.
Anyone telling you that there is a sure timeline for when an announcement is coming is looking for clicks.
The Islanders want to hire the best people available, not settle.
