Islanders Rookie Isaiah George: Learning & Growing Whether He's Playing Or Not
Isaiah George has served as a healthy scratch the last three games but that hasn't stopped him from continuing to learn and grow his game.
After playing 19 straight games to begin his NHL career, New York Islanders rookie defenseman Isaiah George has watched the last three from above.
While no player wants to be in the press box, George has taken advantage of watching the game from a different perspective.
“You get a different perspective of the game when you’re higher up,” George told us. “You can see all the time [the players have] and all the plays. You get to see how they forecheck, just little plays like that.”
The NHL game is a fast one at ice level, but the speed slows down the higher you get, which has its perks for someone trying to learn the game, whether it’s a fan or a player.
“From up top, the game moves a lot slower, and you can see how the plays are broken down and what your options are,” George said. It's good to just get that perspective, slow the game down a bit, and be able to see, ‘Okay, [here are my] center options, wing options, and different scenarios.’”
