The Islanders' Tony DeAngelo Dilemma Isn't Getting Any Easier

With alternatives dwindling, the Islanders must decide whether re-signing Tony DeAngelo is their best option.

We are less than two weeks away from the start of NHL free agency, and we still are not sure what the future holds for New York Islanders pending unrestricted free agent Tony DeAngelo.

While the Islanders try to figure out the best route back to the playoffs after missing the last two seasons, potential DeAngelo replacements are coming off the board.

News broke late Thursday night that the Toronto Maple Leafs acquired right-shot defenseman Darren Raddysh from the Tampa Bay Lightning before signing him to an eight-year extension worth $8.5 million annually.

While it’s not a deal that Islanders general manager Mathieu Darche should be making — Raddysh is coming off a 70-point breakout season at age 30 — he marks another right-shot defenseman now off the market.

He’s not the first one, either.

The San Jose Sharks acquired big-bodied RHD Michael Kesselring, a pending restricted free agent, from the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday.

There are other options.
