The New York Islanders have acquired LHD Carson Soucy from the New York Rangers in exchange for a 2026 third-round pick.

With the Rangers in the midst of retool/rebuild, moving the pending UFA blueliner, who carries a cap hit of $3.25 million, makes sense. Given that Soucy has a 12-team no-trade clause and a young family, it makes sense that Long Island is his landing spot.

Soucy, who stands at 6’4, weighing 211 lbs, has 8 points (3G, 5A) in 46 games.

I spoke with The Athletic’s Vince Mercogliano on the deal and what the newcomer will bring to the Islanders’ lineup.
