Notebook: J.P. Darche Proudly Speaks On Brother Mathieu — Roy Cherishing Time With Father Michel
A family-focused weekend as J.P. Darche proudly discusses brother Mathieu, and Patrick Roy bonds with his father Michel on the Islanders’ dad’s trip.
TAMPA, FL — This is a special weekend for a few reasons. Not only is general manager Mathieu Darche making his return to Tampa, where he spent six seasons as an executive, but it’s also the dad’s/mentor trip.
For Darche, he’s not making this trip about him.
“I had six great years here [...] it’s not about me being back, it’s about the players playing the game. And we need every point we can get in the standings, because you see how close it is. So that’s the main thing tonight.”
We did get to talk to Darche’s brother, J.P., who also has had success in the sports world. J.P. winning three super bowls, the last two as the Kansas City Chiefs’ team physician.
Yes, after retiring from professional football, he actually retrained in medicine, which is what he studied at McGill University — incredible.
Enjoy that chat plus what Patrick Roy had to say about his father, Michel, who is on a Dad’s trip for the first time ever.
