Patrick Kane Won't Play When Islanders Host Red Wings
The Islanders are coming off a regulation win where they held the lead as they'll look to do that again tonight when Detroit comes to town.
EAST MEADOW, NY — After a win to kick off their three-game homestand ahead of Thanksgiving, the New York Islanders (8-8-5) welcome the Detroit Red Wings (8-10-2) at UBS Arena.
Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., and the game can be found on MSGSN.
The Islanders fell to the Red Wings 2-1 last Thursday at Little Caesars Arena. Detroit rallied for two goals in the third period, with Lucas Raymond winning the game inside the final minute of regulation.
However, the Red Wings will be without forward Patrick Kane for Monday night’s game. Head coach Derek Lalonde said he is day-to-day after missing practice on Sunday due to maintenance.

WHO’S HOT:
Brock Nelson had three points on Saturday in the Islanders’ win over the St Louis Blues, tallying a goal and two assists. In doing so, he tied John Tonelli for ninth all-time on the team’s points list with 544 in his career.
His linemate Kyle Palmieri had two goals on Saturday, scoring the bookend tallies in the win. He leads the team in goals and points with nine and 18, respectively, while also being tied with Bo Horvat for the lead in assists with nine. Additionally, Palmieri is three points short of 500 for his career.
Anders Lee is still on the doorstep of the 200-assist mark for New York, needing only one to reach it. Ryan Pulock and Noah Dobson are also on milestone watch, sitting one and two points shy of 200 for their respective careers.
After his strong performance Saturday, Nelson will face a Detroit team he has success against in his career. He leads active Islanders in goals and points against them with 16 and 26, respectively. Lee and Palmieri are tied for the team lead in helpers against them with 12.
After Ilya Sorokin picked up his 100th NHL win on Saturday, Semyon Varlamov will give him Monday night off. He last started against the Calgary Flames last Tuesday, dropping a 2-1 shootout decision with 30 saves. In 14 career games against Detroit, he is 7-7-0 with a 2.27 GAA and .925 SV%, most recently taking a loss with two goals on 24 shots on Nov. 5, 2022.
OPPONENT’S NOTES:
Raymond has goals in back-to-back games, entering play on Monday after winning the game for Detroit. Despite having only four goals for the year, he is averaging nearly a point per game with 15 assists and 19 points.
Dylan Larkin also enters Monday’s game on a hot streak, tallying a point in four straight games. The Detroit captain has two goals and three assists in that span, including a helper on Saturday.
The only goal between the Islanders and Red Wings in their first meeting came off the stick of Patrick Kane. His game-winner furthered his success against the Islanders, boasting 14 goals and 27 points in 24 games; Larkin leads the team in assists in his career against the Islanders.
After winning his first two outings against New York, Alex Lyon will look for a sweep of the Islanders in net. In addition to a shutout at UBS Arena, he stopped 22 shots in Detroit’s win over the Islanders on Thursday in his last outing. Lifetime against the Islanders, he is 2-1-0 with a 1.68 GAA and .937 SV%.

This team is ready to breakout you can feel it. Masterful job by Patrick to re-establish the team defense structure. With quality goaltending night in and night out. Offense has to improve and I believe it will. Lou and Patrick must believe in Walhstrom’s talent and ability, they are giving him as much playing time and support as possible.
