Patrick Roy Finally Getting Through To Pierre Engvall
Is this a solid string of game for No. 18 or is it a complete mindset overhaul?
It became clear pretty quickly that Pierre Engvall had fallen out of favor with head coach Patrick Roy.
Despite Engvall’s speed being a clear necessity for the New York Islanders, his inability to bring his simple game consistency, with five years remaining on his deal at $3 million annually, was (and still is) a problem.
The forward has only played in 47 of the team's 67 games this season. He has also been placed on waivers twice: once at the very start of the season and again in mid-December.
There was a clear frustration there because, at times, we saw just how effective No. 18 can be for this team and Roy when he’s playing to the best of his ability.
Roy begged Engvall to be engaged, take pucks to the net, and play a more physical brand of hockey, but Engvall just struggled to do so.
But lately, it seems that Roy has finally been able to get through to Engvall.
