If Islanders Go With Sorokin On Thursday, It's A Positive Sign
When Patrick Roy spoke after Wednesday’s practice in St. Louis, he told reporters that Ilya Sorokin was ‘likely’ to get the start but that he hadn’t spoken with goalie coach Piero Greco yet.
Sorokin was great in his season debut, turning aside 32 Colorado Avalanche shots in a 6-2 win on Monday, which included stopping 16 of 17 shots in the third period.
So, it would make a lot of sense for Sorokin to be back in between the pipes on Thursday night against the Blues.
However, Sorokin is coming off off-season back surgery after a career-worst 2023-24 campaign, which complicates things.

Game In St. Louis Is A Crossroads Game For Islanders
There’s no such thing as a must-win game this early in an NHL season, but the outcome for the New York Islanders against the St. Louis Blues tonight is a big one.
A loss, whether in regulation (1-2-1) or overtime (1-1-2), has the Islanders with just one win on their road trip, and one wins through their first four games — anything but ideal.
But a win in Mount City, and the Islanders can call their road trip a success, going 2-1-0 to head home feeling a bit better about themselves, with a 2-1-1 record.
